Watch Susan Colantuono on the missing 33% (TM).
Aside from the annoying “tm” it’s got a great message: financial strategic and business acumen is a given for senior roles but it’s never spoken about when people are giving advice on how to succeed.
She quotes one (male) mentor who says he helps women mentorees with confidence and encourages men with understanding the business, but not consciously. So that’s the 33%. Hence the larger numbers of women doing well in middle management (and the paucity of women at senior levels). At least according to Susan.
This is a hopeful useful place to be. We know the problem. Now we can begin to solve it.
