This video has the results of interesting research on research done by reviewing TED talks and getting people to rate the charisma of each speaker. What they found is that our body language is much more important than the sound. You’ve got seven seconds. Here are the researchers’ suggestions
- hand gestures matter: (good speakers make 465 gestures in 18 minutes, the bottom speakers gesture in the 200s) – use a gesture per meaning
- vocal variety: say it as you’ve never said it before, even if you’ve scripted it!
- smile: find the real smile (14 seconds: leaders smile less, but they always find the real smile).
