I just watched this 5:15 ted talk from Sunni Brown about doodling.
She says that doodling involves all 4 of the major learning senses (Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic, Auditory-Digital) and emotion, and because of this, we retain 29% more when we doodle listening to high information density which we need to process.
Rather than distracting us, doodling is concentrating us!
I know when I return to art works I have done while watching TV, I remember the content of the television program I was watching when I made it (usually an episode of Law and Order my husband is watching).
Increasing retention rates is of course a prime concern for anyone giving out information (who wants to say the same thing over and over). I’m running for example a pre conference workshop at the Creative Methods Conference in Melbourne next week. Participants will be well-motivated to retain as much as possible, so that they can run their consulting business most effectively. I’ll be encouraging them to doodle!
btw, there are a limited number of scholarships available for the pre-conference. Call me (0412 135 426) if you think you may deserve one!
