Consulting websites – some minimums

Every consultant eventually needs a website these days: I’d even go so far as to say that I would do business without a business card, but I would always have an authority-building website.

Some of the principles of great sites include:

  • ban jargon and buzzwords
  • interact but don’t intrude
  • make everything easy.

I would add that you may need to consider having several urls: one for your business name, one for your personal name, and then a few which are called what you do (e.g. strategyconsulting.com would be a smart url to have if that’s what you do!).

Oh, and your site should tell clients what they will get out of you (fast turnaround times, happier teams, slimmer lead times), not just what you’ll do for them.

That’s my minimum for consulting web sites. What are yours?
