The tyranny of choice

I’m preparing a rant about people unable to make decisions in traffic (and other places!) for Ignite Sydney on Tuesday.

I went looking for the research about jams and choice anxiety (offer 24 jams, more people stop to buy, but only 3% actually make the decision to buy: offer 6, 30% buy). Found it in this great article on The tyranny of choice: You choose from the economist.

Combine it with this article on how to be happy, incorporating the meta-program of maximisers and satisficers from Eric Barker’s excellent blog.

Here’s the ignite talk. There is some bad language in there (this talk was given to a few hundred hipsters in a nightclub: everything is in context, right?).
