It’s not all about you. There is a consulting adage that you should dress as well as your most senior client. In organisations they suggest you wear the clothes for the job you plan to have next. It matters what others are wearing.
In advertising or IT for example, there’s more cachet in no ties for men.
It’s harder for women. Try funky but cover your skin – there is more credibility in having less skin showing. Again, get the advice of an image consultant: what others are wearing matters, because you’ve got to fit in (for rapport) and stand out (to be seen as better).
