Appreciate what’s the same about you and your team, your colleagues and your boss. Whatever you have in common makes for the rapport that allows them to trust and like you.
From trust and like comes great things.
You or someone else in the team could be the outsider.
Jonah Lehrer’s book Imagine outlined the importance of outsiders in creative teams: just one will break up the status quo and give you new ideas.
Maybe it’s you. Maybe it’s that quiet geeky graduate who’s in the team on rotation and doesn’t say much. Protect and nurture them. Celebrate their difference (or yours).
